About Us

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) is a site where researchers can find data set files to conduct analyses, as long as they follow our Terms of Use. We also provide several tools that can help with analysis. The data sets are collected in several ways, and you can learn about our surveys in the Data Source section of this site.

SAMHDA is an initiative of the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality (CBHSQ),  Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). CBHSQ has primary responsibility for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of SAMHSA’s mental health data.

CBHSQ promotes the access and use of the nation’s substance abuse and mental health data through SAMHDA by providing public-use data files, file documentation, and access to restricted-use data files to support a better understanding of this critical area of public health. To read CBHSQ’s publications (e.g., annual reports, spotlights), please visit the Data Website.

If you have questions about our data or want to contact us, please visit the Get Help section.
