Archived Studies

SAMHSA’s Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality (CBHSQ)—then called the Office of Applied Studies (OAS)—along with partners such as other centers within SAMHSA, completed the following studies prior to 2000.

  • Alcohol and Drug Services Study (ADSS)
  • National Treatment Improvement Evaluation Study (NTIES)
  • Services Research Outcomes Study (SROS)
  • Substance Abuse Treatment Cost Allocation and Analysis Template Study (SATCAAT)

ADSS, NTIES, SROS, and SATCAAT were all completed between 1992 and 1999. Unlike ongoing studies, some of which began collecting data prior to 2000, archived studies will never have new data sets published. For descriptions of data sources with ongoing studies, please visit our Data Source page.

If you are looking for studies that have changed names, such as the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA) which is now the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), those data sets are provided on the same page as their ongoing counterparts. Archived studies are ones that do not have a newer, current iteration.
